Start-Up Success: Bringing a Family Recipe to the World
Sometimes the best start-up ideas are sitting right in front of you. That’s what brothers Mohammed and Rahim Diallo realized when they set out to bottle a West African ginger drink based on a special recipe from their mom.
Made with organic ingredients, the Diallo brothers’ West African ginger drink has generated interest well beyond the brothers’ Harlem, New York, home. After selling it at a popular weekly food festival in nearby Brooklyn, the Diallos found their market. “We learned that Americans, and tourists from all parts of the world, loved Ginjan,” Rahim Diallo says. “It wasn’t a niche product like we originally thought.”
The brothers’ small business, Ginjan Bros, landed the top prize in the 2016 FedEx Small Business Grant Contest. Check out their inspiring story.
